Valentine’s Heart of the Movement Award

Honoring Generosity, Leadership, and Lasting Impact

The Valentine’s Heart of the Movement Award celebrates credit union leaders whose generosity, leadership, and commitment to the  movement create ripples of positive change.

This annual recognition honors those who not only believe in the credit  union mission — people helping people — but who bring it to life in  extraordinary ways through compassion, collaboration, and courage.

“In the credit union movement, some leaders don’t just participate. They ignite transformative lasting impact,” said Tansley Stearns, Board Chair of In the Cellar. “Mike Valentine’s giving heart, dedication to developing leaders, and investment in communities create a ripple effect felt across the country. It is only fitting that this award, which will be presented annually, begins with him.”

Honoring Our Inaugural Recipient and Namesake: Mike Valentine

The award is named in tribute to Mike Valentine, President & CEO of BCU and a 2025 Herb Wegner Memorial Award recipient, whose  unwavering belief in In the Cellar helped launch its success.

Mike’s giving heart, dedication to developing leaders, and investment in communities have inspired countless others to lead with purpose and generosity. It is only fitting that this award — the Heart of the Movement — begins with him.
